The School of Transportation and Logistics in the Dalian University of Technology was originated from the Department of Transportation Engineering (established in 2006) in the School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering and the Institute of International Shipping Center (established in 2006).

   The school is composed of four research institutes (Institute of Pavement Engineering, Institute of Transportation Planning, Institute of Intelligent Transportation Systems and Institute of Logistics) and two laboratories (Pavement Engineering Laboratory and Intelligent Transportation System Laboratory). Currently, the School of Transportation and Logistics offers three types of graduate degrees: the doctorate degree in Transportation System Engineering (affiliated to Management Science and Engineering), the doctorate degree in Municipal Engineering (affiliated to Civil Engineering) and the master degree in Highway and Railway Engineering (affiliated to Transportation Engineering). The faculty members earn their PhD degrees from a variety of Institutes globally, including the Tokyo University, Nagoya University, University of North Carolina, Tongji University and Jilin University. And they have been well recognized in their specific research fields in either Transportation Engineering or Pavement Engineering.

   The Institute of Pavement Engineering has seven faculty members: two professors, three associate professors, one lecture and one engineer. So far, the institute has completed over thirty projects, funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the research funding bodies at the level of provinces and national departments, and the Ministry of Education of Japan. The institute has received one second prize award and two third prize awards in technical progress of province/department level.

   The Institutes of Transportation Planning and of Intelligent Transportation Systems have two professors, two associate professors, four lectures and two Haitian Advisors. They have completed six projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, three international cooperation projects, and also over twenty projects funded by the National Department of Transportation, the Liaoning Province and the City of Dalian. They also have hosted many respected international conferences on traffic and transportation engineering.

   The School of Transportation and Logistics has been in close relationship with many famous universities and research institutes in transportation, and has invited many world-class scholars around the world to give lectures. The school is now making every effort to improve its programs and looking forward to making the Dalian University of Technology evolve into a world-class research-oriented university.
